My love of music began when I was 8 years old. My grandmother had purchased an old 1856 upright piano for my family. Out of four kids, I seemed to be the one determined to learn how to play it so my parents found me a teacher and hence, I began. Now, almost 50 years later, my passion for playing the piano continues to flourish.
Music is something that has always come very naturally to me. It is a large part of who I am. In my early days I was fortunate enough to be able to study piano with 3 amazing teachers, over the course of about 15 years. I attended Central Washington University with a music scholarship and a major in Performance. But as much as I loved performing, teaching “called” me and soon after, I opened my first piano studio.
Since then and over the past 30+ years, I have taught music in many different formats; in public schools, group lessons, private lessons, lab systems and preschools. I’ve done extensive work teaching choral groups and vocal coaching. I’ve learned much about teaching music. Mostly, that I love it. It gives me a great deal of joy to re-discover music through the eyes of my students.
I am a member of Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA) and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). I believe in the importance of continuing to grow and learn in the world of music which is ever changing. I am also a member of, and adjudicator for, the National College of Musicians, known as the Piano Guild. Being a part of these associations not only helps me to sharpen my own teaching/musicianship skills but also brings many opportunities to my students in the form of performances, competitions, adjudications, evaluations, awards, scholarships and more.
I’m a professional accompanist and I have performed, and continue to perform, in many different venues. These include performances with the Wenatchee Valley Symphony as a guest artist, performing with various chamber groups, solo and duo piano recital performances, accompanist for numerous choirs and soloists, performing for weddings, musicals, funerals, church services and more.
Love & Light.
